April Favorites 2014
Something I see a lot of fashion and beauty bloggers and YouTubers do is "monthly favorites" posts. I love reading these posts and watching these videos. I think they're a great way to get some insight on products and other items you might be considering buying for yourself, but want a second opinion. I also think they're a great way to learn about new products or items you may have never even thought to use.
I usually don't do a lot of makeup shopping. When I do shop for makeup, it's usually when I'm going to make a pretty big purchase, so I only go once or twice a year. In the month of March, I made a pretty big purchase at Sephora, and another at Ulta.com. I've had a month to really try out my products and some of them have become new favorites of mine.
My first favorite is the Hawaiian Ruby Guava Body Butter from Pacifica. I originally got a travel size tube of the Pacifica Body Butter in one of my monthly Ipsy bags, and I absolutely loved it! If I could describe the scent to you in anyway, I would have to say it smells just like fruity, Hawaiian goodness. Not only does it smell amazing, but it's so moisturizing and my skin drinks it up! I randomly found a full-size tube at a little shop in my downtown area, but you can order it find Pacifica products in Target stores, at Ulta or you can find it online at the Pacifica website.
My second favorite is a purchase I made at Ulta.com. It is the Lorac Pro Eyeshadow Palette. I have heard so many raving reviews from beauty bloggers and YouTubers and it has been something I've been wanting to try out for sometime now, so I finally gave in and bought it, and I'm so happy I did because it's awesome and exactly what I was hoping it would be. If you are not familiar with the Lorac Pro palette, it comes with two rows of eight beautifully pigmented colors. The top row consists of eight matte colors ranging from white to black. The bottom row consists of eight shimmer colors ranging from nude to slate grey. I think this pallet is perfect for day-to-day looks, as well as more glamorous evening looks!
Next I have three balm stains from Revlon. The first is a deep magenta or fuchsia color called "Smitten" from the Just Bitten Kissable line. The second is a classic bright red color called "Striking Spectaculaire," which is actually from Revlon's ColorBurst Matte Balm line. The third, which is also from the ColorBurst Matte Balm line is a beautiful orange-coral color called "Audacious Audacieuse." All three balms are really beautiful in color. They are balms so they are not super opaque, but they're also stains, so the color that you do apply stays on for quite a while. All three of them also have a very smooth consistency. The color "Smitten" does have a glossier finish, and obviously because the "Striking Spectaculaire" and "Audacious Audacieuse" are matte balms, they do have a matte finish. I think these are great colors for spring and summer and I think just think they're awesome, overall.
I have a great love for Tarte products, more so their Amazonian Clay products, so my next favorite is their Amazonian Clay 12-hour blush in the color "Glisten." Funny story–I actually went into Sephora and after swatching different blushes, I decided I wanted to buy the new color, "Captivating," which is a warm peach color, but for some reason, the "Glisten" blush was in the place of the "Captivating" blush, so I accidentally purchased this one by mistake, but I'm not even mad that it happened because "Glisten" is absolutely gorgeous. It is more of a peachy-pink color, and has some rose-gold simmer to it. I think it's going to be great for spring and summer, and I absolutely love it.
My next product claims to last as long as 16 hours! It is the Too Faced Endless Summer 16 Hour Long-Wear Bronzer. I have really fair skin, so I have to be careful when it comes to bronzer. If I'm not, I either end up looking like an Umpa Loompa or like I have smeared dirt all over my face. It's not pretty. This particular bronzer is great. I don't feel like it's too overwhelming or dark for my skin. I couldn't tell you for sure if it lasts for 16 hours, but it definitely does last a long time. It does have a very slight shimmer to it, but you can't really tell on the skin. It looks nice and natural on the skin.
The next two products are from Maybelline, and can be found at almost anywhere-Walmart, Target, Walgreens, CVS...really anywhere. The first is the Maybelline The Rocket Volume Express Waterproof mascara. I have this mascara in both Blackest Black and Brownish Black. I think this mascara is great. It lengthens and gives great volume to my lashes without being too clumpy. I also have both mascaras in the waterproof formula, and it is extremely waterproof. You don't need to worry about that smearing or smudging through the day, but it can be a bitch to get off at the end of the day. You're definitely going to need some oil based eye makeup remover. I am also loving the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser. Mine is in the shade Light. This is really great for dark circles under your eyes, but I also love to use it as a highlighter! Really awesome formula, but you do need to set it with some powder, because it seems like it makes my eyeliner smudge and smear more if I don't use setting powered.
My last product is an old favorite of mine, and that is the Balm Shelter Tinted Moisturizer from the Balm in the shade Light. I have a hard time finding foundation that I like, just because I hate how heavy foundation tends to feel on my skin. I usually gravitate more toward tinted moisturizers and BB or CC creams. I really love this particular tinted moisturizer because it gives a decent amount of coverage (I would say it's has a medium coverage) without feeling cakey. It's also very moisturizing without being greasy. It looks and feels very natural, like I'm not even wearing makeup, which I LOVE. And one of my favorite things about it, is that it isn't as expensive as some of the high-end foundations. This has a lot more product for a lot less money, and for something with great quality, you can't really go wrong with that!
